“The spill and the spreading is getting so much faster and expanding much quicker than they estimated,” Hans Graber, executive director of the university’s Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing, said in a statement.

President Obama visited southern Louisiana on Sunday as he insisted his administration was doing everything it could. The Obama administration had been preparing for the worst, and it could take several days to stop the leak. The president reminded everyone that BP America is responsible for the leak and will bear all cleanup costs.

BP Chairman McKay

BP chairman Lamar McKay defended his company’s safety record. McKay blames a failed piece of equipment for the crude leak. The company is trying to plug the well which is a mile beneath the Gulf of Mexico.

They drilling company also plans to place a dome over the well but that could take six to eight days. The dome has been made and workers are finishing the plan to get it deployed. In the meantime, BP officials are still working to activate a “blowout preventer” mechanism meant to seal off the well.
