The crew of space shuttle Atlantis will enter quarantine Friday night in Houston ahead of the mission launch scheduled for May 14, NASA announced.
The six astronauts will spend the weekend at Johnson Space Center before flying into Kennedy Space Center in Florida Monday, a release on the NASA Web site stated.
The crew of spaceflight veterans, led by Navy Capt. Ken Ham, 45, will continue to work with trainers and visit with family members during the weeklong quarantine period.
The mission’s cargo will include a Russian module and spare parts for the International Space Station, NASA said.
The launch, scheduled for 2:20 p.m. EDT May 14, will begin a mission lasting 12 days, the last for Atlantis and one of three remaining before NASA intends to retire the shuttle fleet.
